Behind Many Mailing Groups on The Web

This chapter is about the observation on people’s behavior and attitude on the web. This is not particularly pointing to a race, a group, nor anybody in person, but this is a simple thought gathered recently based on personal experience. By no means, this chapter could influence or offend anybody. This chapter should only be information or shared thought.

This chapter begins with so many mailing lists appear on the web where there are groups of people agree to form theirs in order to share their story and keep in touch with each other. Free group provider boosts the rate of groups from kids to adults, from natural things to science and technology. This mailing list will send to each of the members either individual email or monthly mails to the receiver. Each time a person posts the entire member will get the information. So, you’ll say an open letter.

There are rules established by the member or the moderator to encourage the member to post their interest they agreed on within the limit. Apparently, no personal thing will be allowed to post through the group since all the other member would certainly be able to read. What happen if one of the members broke the rules? Of course the moderator has a right to expel him from the membership. But if the moderator did not set the rule right before the group was started, there would be no consequence for any violation. It means anything can be done according to the members. Or nothing would be done.

What happen if certain person dominates the group’s topic? There would be no variation and the mailing list would be a personal expression instead of opening to the other group member for any topic or opinion. Another member would feel like not right to keep letting him to bring up the same subject or his own subject. Someone would feel offended or unfairness and leaving the group for that reason.

In fact, anyone from any part of the world needs manifestation of his thought and life and needs approval of the groups to where he belongs. It is understandable and no one would dare to argue. This is basic psychology. Therefore there are quiet much personal blog and pages uploaded on the web to make money or to get more friends. Without so much bureaucracy and personal identification needed, this mailing group is another good media to spread the information and else accessible to anyone from any part of the world with no limitation in membership nor in rules and else. This is truly a freedom created by technology in this old world bringing the new way of communication among the people and form a new society in the unreal world.

New question appears: would those people behave in the same way as they might share by opinion in the real world? Would that be insufficient to keep the relationship without seeing in person? How would they share the thought without hindrance only by words? If in the real world, face to face, two persons or more would understand easily only by few words, in this new world, few are not enough yet. It would take quite double portion of letters to convey the same meaning. (Did anybody do the research about this?) Depending on the culture, word is the key, isn’t it? Word expression and supported by emotional icons, so called emoticons, would be the main tools to deliver the message.

I heard that Hebrew is the complex yet rich language ever in this earth. No mistake would be allowed once the words are spoken, unless the meaning would be different. English is the easiest one; according to my local thought (no prove yet) therefore it becomes world wide language because the structure of the language is fixed and understandable in many ways. Well, this is a new insight, and probably would be the next topic.
